like ‘fax/facts’ in that information, or facts, are given in the answers.
FFA: Free for All link pages are not search engines or directories. They are pages that simply
take URL submissions, which usually have a shelf life for remaining active. A submission is placed at the top of
their list and then eventually relegated as other submissions come in to replace them. Viewed now as an outdated
mode of artificially inflating link popularity.
FTP: File Transfer Protocol exchanges files (enabling data transfer) in the same way HTTP
transfers web pages over the Internet.
Feeds: Web document of new (revised content only) shortened or updated versions of web pages
created for syndication and usually served on user request, by subscription; includes ad feeds to shopping engines
and paid-inclusion ad models. Ad feeds are usually in RSS (Rich Site Summary) format or XML (Extensible Markup
Language).
Flash: A technology application using software to add animation and enhance interactivity
and/or integrating videos on web pages
Frames: Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) technique permitting two or more pages’ display in a
single browser window. Several search engines experienced difficulty indexing web sites using frames, because they
only ‘saw’ the contents of a single frame. See also “No Frames” ref.
